MARGAZHI KOLANGAL

During the month of Margazhi,  people of Tamil Nadu decorate the threshold of their house with colourful kolams and rangolies. In the center of the kolam, they keep a ball  of fresh cowdung and on it they place a pumpkin flower. Fresh cowdung helps in killing germs and bacteria and purifying the air.  Pumpkin flowers are kept in front of the house to avoid the ill omens of the winter season which ends with the festival of Pongal.  During Margazhi, which is supposed to be the month of Bhakthi, kolams are drawn in front of the house to welcome Lord Krishna everyday.
